A HAP Steering Team has been identified by Tembec and MERC jointly with input from First Nation and Metis communities. As needed, others are invited to join the process to share insights and expertise. The Steering Team members have been drawn from:
- Mushkegowuk Environmental Research Centre
- First Nation and Metis communities in northeastern Ontario
- Tribal Councils in northeastern Ontario
- Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (OMNRF)
The Steering Team has two co-chairs – one from MERC, one from Tembec – who are jointly accountable for moving the process forward, scheduling meetings and setting meeting agendas.
The current Co-Chairs are Lark Ritchie, of Chapleau Cree First Nation and Chris McDonell, of Tembec.
As of December 2015, participants on the Steering Team include members of Chapleau Cree First Nation, Taykwa Tagamou Nation, Mattagami First Nation, Missanabie Cree First Nation, Michipicoten First Nation, Matachewan First Nation and the North Channel Regional Metis Nation of Ontario. Three staff with Tembec in northeastern Ontario participate on the team and the MERC Sr. Researcher and a representative of MNRF act in an advisory capacity.
